My Friend Irma

Marie Wilson's Irma — radio hit, television series, and the film that launched Martin and Lewis.

Irma is the crossover property par excellence: a radio hit that became a film in 1949 — the picture that introduced Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis to cinema audiences — and then a television series in 1952, with the radio version still running. For two years CBS was producing the same comedy twice a week in two media, with largely the same cast, and selling both to the same sponsor.
